FREE FAMILY CONCERTS AT HOYT FARM

Each year, the Smithtown Recreation Department hosts a free Concert Series at Hoyt Farm Park on New Highway in Commack. This year, seven concerts will be presented during July and August, appealing to a wide range of musical tastes. Additionally, we will hold two Friday night Kids Concerts especially for children in the elementary grades. One of the highlights of the Summer will be the August 1st viewing of the block buster hit, BEE MOVIE on the big screen. As always the events will be free of charge!

In case of light rain every effort will be made to move the concert under the pavilion. Smithtown Real Estate - Hoyt Farm Summer Events

Did you know that The Town of Smithtown has announced the return of Hoyt Farm’s Summer Nature Camp? The camps programs are suitable for children aged 7-10. Hoyt Farm’s Summer Nature Camp is offering 3 sessions this summer (2008).

Session 1: July 14-July 18 Session 2: July 28 –August 1 Session 3: August 18-August 22

Each session runs from 9 am till 12:30pm. The cost for each session is $125.00 per child.

At nature camp the kids will explore the world around them using live animals, hands on activities, games and crafts. This indoor / outdoor programs runs rain or shine. Smithtown - Long Island - Real Estate - New York - History

Smithtown is named after its founder, Richard Smythe. Mr. Smythe was an English subject who first settled in Southampton. After being banished from that town in 1656, possibly for religious reasons, he settled in Setauket for nine years. Then in 1663, it is believed, he purchased the land that became known as Smithtown from Lion Gardiner. Mr. Gardiner had been deeded the lands by Chief Wyandanch, Sachem of the Long Island Montauks, after Mr. Gardiner helped the chief get back his kidnapped daughter from a party of raiding Narragansett Indians. A Royal land patent was officially issued in 1665 to Richard Smythe.
